Our friends, Alison and Tim, over at 2wheels4water.com arrived back home yesterday after an exhausting 6 day trip accross The Carolinas. Here are some pictures. Day 1: Total Success!
And because no one tell it better than Alison, here is what she wrote on her Blog:
“We made it to Columbia safely… sweaty but safe! We got hit by a few bugs, got turned around in Union and had a scary moment with a wild turkey, but other than that it was a smooth ride. We are now relaxing in the Hampton Inn in downtown Columbia– a complimentary stay thanks to the wonderful people at Hampton Inn!
I received a nice e-mail from a lady who heard us on HIS Radio the other day. She has donated to the trip and written a very nice blog about us. Her name is Lisa and we are really encouraged by her and her husband’s support!
We also got an e-mail from JoAnn in North Carolina. She runs the Arby’s restaurants up there and offered us free dinner when we get there! How sweet is that?? I think that is another example of using what you have for God’s glory. I will try to write more later about day one and post some pictures. But we are hungry!I almost forgot– thanks to WYFF for covering our departure this morning! I believe you can catch it sometime between 5-6pm tonight. Thanks guys!!”
Day 2: Made it to Beaufort
“Boy was it hot today. We didn’t even make it out of Columbia before breaking into a sweat. In all we covered about 180 miles that took us through some neat little towns including Denmark and Norway. But perhaps the most interestingly named town is North. Yes, North, South Carolina. That seems kind of confusing.
We met some nice people today and one that wasn’t the friendliest. We decided to take a short detour into Hilton Head since neither of us had ever been there. On our way to the island we went through a toll booth. I told Tim he should give the toll booth operator one of our 2 Wheels 4 Water cards. He handed the toll booth operator the card and she said, “you can’t pay with this. What is this? I don’t want this.” Tim explained quickly and the lady just handed the card back to him, completely uninterested. But when we left Hilton Head and went back through the toll booth the new operator immediately asked us about our scooters. We not only gave him a 2 Wheels 4 Water card, but also a card for Touring Sport BMW because he was interested in buying his own scooter.

For those of you who don’t know anything about this project here it is in a nutshell: they are trying to fund-raise money in order to help improve the lives of those who do not have access to clean drinking water.
BUT HOW?
Well, they are going to ride their Vespa scooter 1200 miles accross North and South Carolina. Every mile driven on a moped costs just 3.5 cents. Every mile in a typical car costs about 17.5 cents. They are asking you to pledge the difference: 14 cents for every mile they cover.
Thier message is: SAVE GAS. END THIRST.

August 3: Beaufort to Charleston to Myrtle Beach
August 4: Myrtle Beach to Cape Fear, NC to Raleigh

August 6: Charlotte to Asheville to Greenville
